Objective:
“Innovative Educational Responses to the Reality of the Year 2000”, to respond creatively to the challenges posed to the impoverished Latin Americans by the new global conjuncture, of ambiguous sign, with innovative educational responses that are instruments to achieve a quality of life based on the dignity of children of God.
Background:
The XI Assembly of FIFyA, held at the conclusion of the XXVII Congress “Education for Educators” in Cochabamba, Bolivia, chose for the XXVIII Congress of FIFyA, to be held in Bogotá Colombia in 1997, the theme: “Innovative Educational Responses to the reality of the year 2000”. The XI Assembly, in selecting this theme, sought to examine in depth the reality of Latin American countries in the face of the new global situation, as well as the challenges and innovative educational responses generated in each country by the Fe y Alegrías in the face of this global situation.
The Congress:
The XXVIII Congress “Innovative Educational Responses to the Reality of the Year 2000”studied the manifestations of the current juncture of the globalisation process, the social dynamisms and educational trends of globalisation. All the presentations highlighted the challenge of access to technological culture for the most impoverished countries and sectors, since the incorporation into the globalisation process depends less and less on natural resources and labour. On the other hand, in social dynamism, the growing criticism of economic models that destroy the environment was highlighted. Finally in educational trends, stand out the link between education and people training, productivity and competitiveness, as well as flexibility and adaptability to respond to the challenges of a globalised world.
